4. CEUs and Certificate
Learners who want a recognized credential for their resumes can
choose to earn 4.8 continuing education units (CEUs) and the
Certificate of Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership and Management.
Michigan State University awards the CEUs, while the Michigan State University
Department of Community, Agriculture, Recreation, and Resource Studies, and the Society for
Nonprofit Organizations awards the Certificate of Excellence.
To earn the Certificate and 4.8 CEUs, learners must participate in
all 8 programs in the Certificate Series, successfully complete
additional assignments, and pay an administrative fee of $15/program
(or $100 for the entire series). Learners can also earn .6 CEUs by
completing the assignments from individual programs.
All assignments are evaluated on a pass/fail basis.
5. CAETM - Certified Association Executive
The American Society of Association Executives' Certified Association Executive (CAETM)
credential is the most respected and sought after designation in association management. CEUs
earned through The Learning Institute's online courses may be
applicable toward completing the application requirement for ASAE's CAE credential as a
self-study program. Each CEU is worth 10 CAE credit hours, and 50% of application hours
can be earned through self-study programs. For full details on the CAE program,
visit www.asaenet.org/cae (CAE is a trademark of the American Society of Association Executives).
6. Certificate Series
This series of eight courses has been specifically designed to
address the core competencies deemed necessary to successfully lead
and manage a nonprofit organization. The mastery of these
competencies, although not a guarantee of success, will certainly
place the learner on the right road and heading in the right
direction.
The programs range in scope from Strategic Planning to Strategic
Alliances. Along the way, they thoroughly examine such key result
areas as Resource Development, Board Governance, and Marketing. They
also deal with Financial Management, Social Entrepreneurship, and
Volunteer Management.
The faculty represents some of the finest experts in the field of
nonprofit leadership and management: Alford, Boschee, Brinckerhoff,
Campbell, Ellis, Fox, Jones, Martinelli, and Weisman. Each program
showcases the faculty members’ wealth of hands-on experience.
7. Learning Institute
The Learning Institute For Nonprofit Organizations was founded in
1996. It is a program of The Society For Nonprofit Organizations and a
collaborative effort with Michigan State University.
The goal of the Learning Institute is to provide affordable,
accessible learning experiences for all involved in the nonprofit
sector: board members, paid staff, and the myriad of volunteers that
make it all work.
